This workshop will train pt practitioners in the complex skill set needed for delivering playback theatre to troubled communities, whether from climate change, violence, or immigration issues. It will take place in New Orleans, devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and be hosted by members of NOLA Playback Theatre, who have been doing extensive work in the community as well as themselves being affected by the storm. Participants will tour the city, meet local residents, and build artistic and organizing skills in a workshop setting. The workshop will also emphasize the social awareness needed to bring assistance in an ethical manner. The workshop will conclude with a focus on the participants’ own communities and concrete opportunities for crisis interventions with playback. Following the training, participants will be encouraged to submit proposals for projects in their own communities, one or two of which will receive support from the Centre for Playback Theatre.
Because youth is often an underrepresented segment of research, training, and project development opportunities, we encourage up to five young persons under 25 to attend under the sponsorship of a participating member. We expect these individuals to have a keen interest in playback theatre and crisis intervention.
Price of this workshop includes tuition, tour of NO, housing, transportation to the workshop site, and two meals a day. The price for the youth participants will be $700.
Participation is open to US’ers and those from international locations and will be decided by application. Click here for application.
