The Libra Project
1. Scholarships to the Centre
for Playback Theatre's training program in New York for people who would otherwise not have access
to playback theatre training (ongoing): The Centre's ability to welcome any interested student,
regardless of economic or cultural background, depends on raising funds and a strong commitment
to diversity of the student body. Each year
students come from 15-20 countries, including Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Playback theatre provides an opportunity for dialogue that is a deep benefit of
the training. 3. Emergency Playback Europa (2007): When disaster strikes, people desperately need a forum to share their stories. In September of 2007 a seminar took place in Hungary designed to provide European playback theatre practitioners with the tools for delivering playback theatre to communities suffering from a natural or civil emergency. [Read More] 4. Katrina Relief Project (2006): The Centre organized a major initiative to bring playback theatre to residents of the US Gulf region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Because so many of the most severely affected are poor and persons of color, the Centre has a special mission to give them a voice as well as participate in overall disaster recovery. [Read More] 5. Playback theatre training in Angola and Burundi (2001-3): The Centre has sent training teams to Angola and Burundi to work with local acting companies to help them use playback for purposes of social reconstruction.
